FRIULI VENEZIA GIULIA

The Friuli Venezia Giulia region is located in the extreme northeast of Italy, on the border with Slovenia and Austria. Overlooking the Adriatic Sea, it is framed by high mountains in which there are many landscapes surrounded by greenery

From an oenological point of view, Friuli-Venezia Giulia is a region dedicated to theviticulture ofthe highest quality, which began to develop in the most modern aspects from the middle of the last century, especially with regard to the production ofwhite wines, which achieve excellent results thanks to the characteristics of the soil, the strong temperature contrast between day and night and the influence of the Adriatic Sea.

Along the centuries,Friuli Venezia Giulia,a meeting point for Italian, Austrian and Slavic culturesDue to its geographical position it has been the subject of disputes and domination by the Romans, Byzantines, Venetians and Habsburgs. The succession of these populations in the domain of the region, has contributed greatly to the introduction of many varieties of grapes.

Already in the year 1765 Maria Teresa of Austria founded the Teresian Agricultural Society With the aim of studying the territory, where to plant the vineyards, he advises winemakers on the best varieties, and also suggests cultivation practices that guarantee excellent results. With the 1930s we witnessed the introduction of French varieties. Since the 1960s, Friuli has been recognized as a producer of high quality wines, thanks to great winemakers such as Mario Schioppettino.
